Discover Ethiopia

A land of contrast and a truly best kept secret

Ethiopia offers uncountable gifts and an unforgettable memory for visitors — relatively unique from the rest of the world.

Rock-hewn churches of Lalibela

A proud and long history

Ethiopia's history extends to the known beginning of humankind. The mysterious and tallest ever standing monolithic monuments of Axum, the astonishing and perfectly designed rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, the magnificent and elegant castles of Gondar, the marvelous and decorated wall of Harer (Jegol), and other architectural remnants exist testifying the great civilizations of the country registered centuries ago.

The roof of Africa

The natural beauty of Ethiopia is amazing. It is endowed with breathtaking rugged mountains — the Simien Mountains (highest peak 4,543 m) and the Bale Mountains are iconic landscapes — great escarpments and stunning vistas waiting for real adventurers. The country is often awarded as “the roof of Africa”.

The only feature of planet Earth visible from the moon, the Rift Valley, is a remarkable region of volcanic-formed lakes with famous collections of birdlife, making Ethiopia truly a paradise for bird watchers.

Ethiopia is the source of the life-giving Blue Nile and many other rivers, lakes, and waterfalls — some of which rank among the greatest spectacles in Africa today.

Biodiversity & research

Ethiopia's biodiversity makes the country an important place for scientific studies and research. Abundant birdlife, endemic mammals (from the goat-like Walia Ibex to the Giant mole rat), beautiful flowers, butterflies, and many more indigenous plants make the country a suitable place for living things to thrive. The mazes of the beautifully natural curved limestone walls of the Sof Omar Cave offer a “wow” feeling and extreme adventure.

Danakil Depression

The Danakil Depression, the hottest place on Earth (48°C / 118°F), offers the most colorful landscapes you won't see anywhere else in the world — sulphur springs, salt flats, and otherworldly formations.

Ethiopian culture and coffee

Vibrant and colourful culture

Besides magnificent history and splendid nature, Ethiopia boasts vibrant and colourful culture. Mass-celebrated festivals such as the recently registered UNESCO World Heritage Meskel (the Finding of the True Cross) and Timket (Epiphany) have the power to bring strangers together and create inexpressibly happy moments. The spicy, aromatic Ethiopian dishes such as Doro Wot (stew) and the exclusively homemade Tej (Ethiopian honey wine) create a good feeling on an extraordinary level.

The indigenous grain Teff, the ingredient for Ethiopia's staple food Injera, has become popular worldwide for its gluten-free nature and as a good source of fibre, carbohydrate, iron, and phosphate.
